Globe Trekker

Airs: Wednesdays at 8pm on WGBH44 Diving for sharks on Bora Bora. Getting a massage in a traditional Turkish hammam. Hiking a volcano in Guadeloupe. Learning the ancient art of batik in Sumatra, where it was invented. For anyone who’s ever dreamed of an exotic vacation immersed in a completely foreign destination — and culture — public television and the producers of the Lonely Planet travel series are pleased to present GLOBE TREKKER, an exciting travel series that take us to the far-flung corners of the earth.

On each episode, GLOBE TREKKER sends a solo “traveler” on a journey through an unfamiliar country or region, chronicling his or her adventures along the way. These intrepid travelers are engaging, energetic and diverse presenters who share with the audience a wide range of experiences that are definitely out of the ordinary. They sample local delicacies, stay in traditional lodgings (including huts, desert tents and local guesthouses), and interact with residents in ways that truly bring the destination to life. In keeping with their goal of living like the locals do, the sights and activities they discover include a mix of traditional and popular culture, landmark attractions and exciting discoveries off the beaten track. The magnificent cinematography provides in-depth coverage of the area and brings to life each destination in all its vivid colors.
